Biography: Let your dreams take flight...
I've never been a quick-sketch artist; Self taught, real life just moves too quick for me. Instead, I prefer to work from photos and take much of my inspiration from the beauty of form and nature that God has so richly blessed us with.
My best medium has traditionally been graphite pencil - I've dabbled in other media, but always return to pencil; For me, there's nothing to beat it's subtlety in capturing tone and texture, particularly for portraits.
I learned photography from my father, who was a keen amateur and turned the cupboard under the stairs into a cramped but efficient darkroom. I'd stand by his side and watch, fascinated, as images appeared on the papers as he swished them about in the various trays of smelly liquids...
I soon found a new use for his enlarger- it became a projection microscope enabling me to produce instant photos of whatever I put in it...
More recently, as my eyes grow dim, I've turned to the computer as a new medium for creating artworks- you'll see examples of some of these in the Digital Artwork, Crystal Worlds, and the Space Phase Galleries.
People always used to tell me my ability to create was a gift from God-
So to God be the Glory...
The name "Dichromia" is in honour of my late Pastor and special friend, Albert Ashworth, who gave me the idea for the Crystal Worlds series of pictures, of which the first to be produced was titled Dichromia, being created from a crystal photomicrograph of Potassium Dichromate photographed by Albert some years earlier.
